Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine is the use of plants and plant extracts that are not considered drugs. Herbalism is a traditional form of medicine in many cultures.

The use of herbal medicines can be traced back to prehistoric times, when people used plants and plant extracts for their therapeutic properties. The earliest written record of herbalism is from ancient China, where herbs were prescribed in a book called the Shennong Bencao Jing (神农本草经) or Divine Farmer’s Materia Medica.

The use of herbs to cure illness has been a practice in many cultures for centuries.

Herbal medicine is the most common form of traditional medicine in China, Korea, and Japan. The Chinese even have a name for it: "Zhong Yao" which means "Chinese herbal medicine".

In ancient Egypt, herbs are mentioned on papyrus scrolls and carvings from as far back as 1000 BC. The Ebers Papyrus from 1550 BC lists over 800 plant medicines and spells which were used by Egyptians at this time to heal various ailments
